Onan Performer 20 Xsl Manual

I'd choose repowering the 446 as you'll not need to modify frame. There are some RIGHT ways and WRONG ways to approach this, mostly dealing w/Starter - using the CORRECT one w/o a solenoid/shuttle on the starter will make life easier. You may have to slightly adjust the cooler line depending on the PIN of your tractor. Please post the PIN!! Ray W I have a '77 446 that's been repowered with a Linamar LX790 (Onan P220 I believe) and I have an issue with the starter. This was repowered at the local Case/IH dealer many years ago and retains the original PTO clutch.

The starter will interfere with the linkage for the snowcaster and the front blade I have (which is the older style that uses the same lift point as the snowcaster, going over the front axle) Is there another type of starter that can be used? And what can been done with the cooler lines? What the dealer did looks a little hacked up for my likes. Hi guys, Here are some pics of the repower I did on my own 1985 448 in 1996.

This engine is a spec #10936 which was configured to be a replacement for a B43 or B48 in a Case/Ingersoll machine. The rear heat shield and exhaust shields were reused. I modified the exhaust heat shields to fit the square air filter housing, but not shown very good in the pics. This engine ran much hotter than the original B48 and I added a shield on the left rear on the engine and hood vents. Those of you that are considering a P series repower, I recommend that you use the Onan regulator/rectifier that mounts on the engine and this will replace the Case/Ingersoll regulator/rectifier that mounts on the inside of the steering tower panel.

Ray, the deck pic shows the smaller diameter drive pulley from the N40 deck.

Hello i traded for an onan 24 hp performer with 5400 hrs. No leaks, oil changed ever 50 hrs. Air filter regular ser. No repair at all, only spark plugs replaced. Runs good, no noises. Has good second muffler.

Personally know original owner. Motor was on wood mizer saw mill, replaced with a new onan. Because of loss of power. No obvious reason for power loss.

Now my question is it possible the valves have tightened up enough to leak compression without burning, have not checked compression but will on start up. Onan states to adj.valves regulary. This is to be used as a hobby project on a sears suburban and onan valves and gaskets aint cheap.

Any thoughts appreciated. Have a great day jimmy in south georgia. If you post the full model number (P224???), someone may have a service manual. Don't forget an email address capable of accepting large attachments. At 5400 hours, I'm not surprised the engine is getting a bit tired.

The first thing to do is compression and leakdown tests. That should pretty well define the problem. If the valves have never been adjusted, that could be the problem.

It's way past due. Impa code book. Are the valves burned? No way to tell except pull the heads and check. But first, do the compression and leakdown tests so you know where any loss of compression is occurring, BEFORE pulling the heads.
